Bilic in for the long haul...
From Claret & Hugh so feel free to cunt off, but nice quotes and good news all round.....

“Slav can do a Wenger or Fergie at West Ham”
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on October 29, 2015 in News, Whispers

Slaven Bilic’s admission that he would like to become the Sir Alex Ferguson of West Ham United is the sort of talk everyone around the club wants to hear.

In an interview with a Turkish media outlet Slaven made it clear that as his aim at the club was to do the sort of job for us achieved by the Scot.

David Gold for one admits that our new manager is certainly young enough to do a Fergie or an Arsene Wenger which in these days when managers do well to remain with a club three or four years is a big admission.

Delighted with the start Slaven has made, Gold told ClaretandHugh: “Obviously it’s much too early to get into big predictions about how long any manager may stay but yes he’s young enough to do that and it’s a lovely thought.

“There’s no reason why, if he continues as he has begun, why he shouldn’t be around the club for a very long time to come. That would be the hope.”

Gold has been as impressed with the manager’s off the field approach to the job as the results he’s achieved on it.”

He said: “He has a very good attitude, determination, aggression and humility. It’s a great mix and has left a good impression with everybody.

“I’ve heard it said that he has a similar manner to John Lyall. That’s a very high compliment but he does come across very well indeed.”

I think Slav will end up somewhere else soon enough... the more successful we are, the sooner it will happen. Enjoy the ride for now.

If we are going to play two up top then, assuming they are both fit, it should be Sakho and Valencia.

We can't afford AC as a super sub... I reckon Slav will give him some games, big him up to the media, and flog him on asap. He is no use to us as a starter in my humble.

Incidentally, we have the same problem brewing with Noble... we can speculate on what's causing him to be picked ahead of Obiang; if us muppets in the crowd can see it, no doubt Slav can too. But 50K pw is a bit easier to stomach than 80K, so he may have a future off the bench/injuries etc.

Too much of an Allardici flavour for me on Saturday: Collins / Carroll / JOB on the bench... perhaps we want to move them on and Curtis is saying it's difficult unless they're shop windowed..? If it's Slav trying to keep everyone happy... well, all I can say is "I hope he's learned his lesson".

We'll see, but I couldn't bare us to be a team built with him as our top man in mind.

Re: Bilic in for the long haul...
Yep, we would have to change the system a little, but saying that a lot of clubs do depending on oppo and if home or away, you don't have to play the same way every week.

Thing is to simpligy it you can just say we looked like an Allardyce side yesterday, BUT last season we were top 4 at Xmas under his approach.

I can't see Carroll staying here for another 3 years, or whatever it is, on 90k a week just being a super sub. Something will have to give.

Re: Bilic in for the long haul...
If he has to start, I'd definitely prefer him in a front 2, BC. But you're completely changing the way we're setting up then with the rest of the players at our disposal. He'd have been a lot better with Zarate as a partner yesterday. But to me he is the perfect player to bring on when you're in the ascendency whilst chasing a result, to change the dynamics, and opposing teams will naturally back up a bit when he is coming on. When he starts, I think they set up ready for him and how we'll likely play, and deal with him better.

Obviously that won't happen every time, but a lot thought that sort of thing would happen with him starting, and lo and behold, first game he starts, that's exactly what happens. This isn't being clever after the show, this is what a few predicted, Monk being another one.

Eerie- As a loner I would agree, but what about someone up there playing off of him?

Carroll as nothing more than PLAN B has been obvious for ages, for 2 reasons, style of play AND his injury record. Been calling it on here for long enough.

'I don't know how we integrate him in the side for 90mins without looking like an Allardyce team''

Would agree with that. He simply doesn't have the movement, pace or energy to play the lone role. So Bilic has a simple choice IMO, he either never starts him again or plays someone like Zarate up there too, off of AC..

Re: Bilic in for the long haul...
Carroll has gone from hero to zero but it's self inflicted. The mistake for the first goal was school boy stuff. I don't know how we integrate him in the side for 90mins without looking like an Allardyce team. It's a dilemma for Bilic but he is a great option as a plan B to hold up the ball or bombard the penalty area looking for the draw or win.
I actually think Jelavic is a more like for like replacement for Sakho as he is more mobile and will run the channels but he's a shadow of what he was when Slaven had him playing in the national team.
I was encouraged by some of the stuff Valencia did - could and maybe should have scored but read the pass back and hit it early to give the keeper no chance. He can't play up front on his own though.
Both Valencia and Sakho love the sorts of through balls Lanzini, Payet and Song can provide. Carroll I'm afraid always wants it in the air where he is normally dominant.

Re: Bilic in for the long haul...
Our game is based on high energy fast counter attacking play, unfortunately AC doesn't fit that philosophy, he's not a bad player and can certainly be asset for us, but he should not be starting games anymore, if sakho is unavailable Valencia should be next in line.

Joker, I'm not sure there's many who don't rate the player, as such, but he is best affecting games from the bench. You cannot start him with the style of play we're attempting, especially away from home.

they say a week is a long time in football but this is the same guy that terrorised Chelsea to score a fantastic header that secured all 3 points for us last week , give the man a fucking break .

Re: Bilic in for the long haul...
PD.

In fairness he has been out of action for the better part of 10 months but did look like a mug. He must fucking hate himself today.

He did play poor as did the majority of the rest of the team, but we do have to lose sometimes.

Ship out Moses ASAP and give Antonio a run as backup to my mate Zarate!

We'll beat Everton by 2 goals mate, lump on.

Re: Bilic in for the long haul...
I've backed Carroll on here recenlty, but that phase of play with the air shot and the attempted Cruyff turn was something you would not even expect to see over the park, but there was a once 35 mil footballer looking like a stricken animal. Utterly pathetic and he should be ashamed of himself.

sitting in the Watford end today ,Carroll won every ball in the air played to him in the second half , we were really not awake to the knock ons , very basic and poor .

Re: Bilic in for the long haul...
The problem wasn't Carroll it was the was we tried the same counter attacking football!!!

Payet and Moses should have been within 10yds of Carroll all that first half

Hindsight is a wonderful thing

I'd have started Carroll too if Sakho was injured

Re: Bilic in for the long haul...
He can't become a Wenger or Fergie until he stops being tactically naive. Putting players in out of sentiment - like today. No way would they have started with Carroll - and kept Collins in the line up. That may have worked last week but play your best team for fucks sake.
